The McComas Power Index (MPI) rates teams based on who won and who lost the game. Scores, homefield, and other factors are not included.
The MPI is a retrodicitve system and is not designed to predict the future. The MPI determines if the game was won or lost and the quality of the opponent played. The algorithm is an adjusted winning percentage method that considers if the game was won/lost and weights the game based on the opponents strength.
